Her early ambition was for a life in the theatre but somehow she ended up with a history degree and a career in retail management. This was a great disappointment to her as she would have loved to have starred as a charlady in Eastenders for 25 years. (Not a lot different from what she currently does but probably better pay.)

Jane’s special subject at university was the Tudor Navy which still surprises her today as she has no interest whatsoever in boats. (Unless they’re big, expensive and involve a free trip surrounded by nubile young men wearing thongs.) Having heard that Henry VIII was partial to women who could steer well, Jane had plans to command his fleet. Unfortunately, it came as a shock to discover Henry VIII was, in fact, dead. It was even more disappointing to find that Drake was a duck and Raleigh was a bike. Regrettably, Jane realised she should have paid more attention at school.

Jane met her future husband when she attended an interview for a temporary job. The boss was tall, dark and handsome and Jane decided to throw her cards on the table. This proved a stupid manoeuvre as he didn’t know how to play pontoon. However, he still looked vaguely interested in illicit sex so when he informed Jane that the dress code entailed a compulsory black skirt Jane grabbed her chance and asked if it was also compulsory black underwear. Jane immediately got the job, vacuumed his office and later married him. In the course of time this resulted in three annoying sons who have since made her life sheer utter hell.

Jane is now extremely fond of prescription drugs but will occasionally make do with Anadin, Nurofen and paracetamol. Preferably at the same time.

In between the school runs, after school clubs and Saturday mornings spent drenched in some sodden field in Southern England Jane began to write for her own amusement. Her early humorous football reports for the BBC led to a column Mum’s the Word where she gave her own comical view on life and motherhood whilst continuing to scribe her blog The Witty Ways of a Wayward Wife.

Jane now writes for the literary magazine The View From Here. She is also working on her first novel, Capital Crusader, a chick lit thriller. When not attending to her family and writing Jane enjoys chocolate, cup cakes and annoying friends with extremely dubious emails.
